New Store Opening, Curly Kinks!!

I have been working diligently for about a year making my own natural hair care products. I was told that I need to sell my products to the natural hair care community, so that is what I did.

I created the product line Curly Kinks http://curlykinks.com , which makes natural hair care products for natural, kinky curly, coily hair

The product line consists of:

Curly Kinks Coil Custard, which is a natural curling gelly created to define and smooth curly kinky coily hair.

Butta Cream Leave In, a thick moisturizing leave in conditioner that softens, moisturizes the hair.

More products are in the making and will be added to the product line at a later date. The opening date for the store and launch of the product line will be posted in another post so please watch for it.

Going Straight for a Little While

Ok so those of you who have been following me from the very beginning should know that I haven't straightened my hair since my BC in March 2008. This coming March will be 2 years natural and I haven't seen my hair in it's full length yet. So as a treat to myself I am going to straighten my hair. I am going to do a roller set on my hair with the large rollers and then I am not sure if I am going to flat iron or silk wrap my hair. We shall see because I want to minimize the amount of heat applied to my hair.

I purchased the Jilbere Ceranic Flat Iron from Sally's along with a heat protectant. I am so excited so when I do this next week, I will most certainly let you guys know my results. Here's hoping for great results, and NO heat damage, lol. I'll keep you posted!

Is covering your hair at night a turn off??

Natural women, curly haired women & transitioning women all know that covering your hair at night with a satin bonnet or scarf of some sort is necessary to protect your hair from snags, breakage, & keeping the hair moisturized. However I am noticing that there are many women that won't wrap their heads up because their spouse or boyfriend stated that he felt it was unattractive looking. So they risk the health of their hair to satisfy their significant others preferences.
I am at a point in my life where I am starting to do things for me, so taking care of my hair is something I do for me and strictly for me. It doesn't really matter to me what my husband thinks about what's on my hair when I go to bed, well maybe it does a little, LOL. I don't want to go to bed looking like my grandmom, but I still want to protect me hair so what do I do? I start researching the different scarfs, bonnets, & wraps out there to try and find some good ones out there for you stylish ladies!!
This is by far the best in my opinion, a scarf & bonnet in one. It fits snug enough to protect hair styles like twists, braids, etc...  and great for women with shorter hair styles.  It has the attached feature to look like a stylish silk scarf. It comes in a few colors, is made with silk which is a very breathable fabric so your head won't get hot, it doesn't slide off of your head while sleeping because of the construction of the wrap, and most of all, it isn't ugly like those grandma bonnets you see out there. Comes in black, ivory, pink, & print. http://www.prettywrap.com

These are very beautiful and stylish while protecting your hair at the same time. These are not made with silk but instead made with a soft satin. These would be great for those ladies that have some length to their hair like shoulder length or longer and also for braids and locs. These would be perfect for those women who want to lounge, keep their hair protected but also look glamorous and stylish, but also for sleeping. http://www.satinsakks.com

Pretty AnntoiNet's http://prettyanntoinets.com

This is a spin on the famous but hated basic satin bonnets we see at out local beauty supply stores. These bonnets are made with 100% silk which will allows air to pass through, keeping your scalp dry and helping the hair to breath. The other good thing on this is that the elastic on the band of this bonnet will not ever ouch your skin or hairline, stopping the problem many women had with the satin bonnets rubbing their edges out. So if you like he style of the basic bonnet but want a better fabric that breaths, looks better and is easier on the hair line, then try this line. http://prettyanntoinets.com/

So in conclusion, there are some stylish wraps for your hair ladies, you just have to try them out. Who know, your man just may like them after all!!, Mine does!

Beauty By Donna Marie Products

So I woke up to a very surprising package on my door step today! A package from Beauty By Donna Marie, thank you Ayanna!! She has a whole new line up of products that I just had to try. I almost broke the box trying to get into it, LOL I finally opened the box and here is my first impression of the products as I opened them up!

MiraCurl Detangler
Leave In Conditioner
8oz $10.00

Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Juice, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Linum Usitatissimum (Flaxseed) extract), horsetail extract, Cocos Nucifera (coconut) Milk, citric acid, silver citrate, potassium sorbate and fragrance.

The fragrance is the first thing I noticed when I took the cap off of the bottle. It is a sweet fragrance that could be considered a little strong to some but I love my hair care products to smell really good so I was ok with that. It is a creamy white color and is a little runny, and as you guys should know by now, I like runny conditioners and leave in conditioners because it makes it easier to distribute through out my entire head. The runny texture is a plus for me! It has a great amount of slip on my fingers and kind of disappears on the skin which is great because I hate when my leave ins get white and frothy on my hair. It seems like a good detangler/leave in but I will post an update to let you know how it worked on my hair.

MiraCurl Curling Gelly
16oz. $20.00

Purified water, aloe vera juice, linseed extract, plantago psyllium extract, vegetable glycerin, slippery elm root, rosemary extract, hibiscus extract, xanthan gum, Pro-Vitamin B5, Avocado oil, beet root (for color), silver citrate, citric acid, potassium sorbate and fragrance.

This is the product I was the most excited to try! I have very cottony hair that does not clump together on it's own even though I have a looser wave texture. So a curling jelly really has to deliver in order to work on my hair! The color of it kind of put me off a little because it is slightly pink from the beet root that she uses to add color. It is very goopy and slimy feeling which only means one thing for me, it will make my hair clump perfectly! The texture & consistency really truly reminds me of Kinky Curly Curling Custard, just a pink version and I have to say I am excited about that because that means it just might give me excellent curl definition. So I currently have braids in my hair for a braid out so next week after I get tired of the braid out, I will be trying this product and post my results for you to see!

Lock & Twist Pudding
8oz $10.00

Deionized water, aloe vera gel, sweet almond oil, kokum butter, mango butter, glycerin, flax seed gel extract, carbomer, carrot seed extract, anatto seed extract, agave nectar extract, silver citrate, potassium sorbate and natural fragrance.

This pudding has a strong scent of butterscotch and looks like an actual pudding just a little thicker. The color is a dark vanilla color. I am not a fan of the scent however the texture feels to good to pass up. I have been using other products for my braid outs an twists outs up to this point and I have been happy with my results but if I can get more moisture and definition in my hair using this pudding, then I'll be ecstatic!!

So I will keep you guys posted on my results as I try these products out.

AfroVeda Product Review

Totally Twisted Ginger Almond Butter
$9.00 8oz Jar
$15.00 16oz. Jar
$24.00 320z Jar

This cream is very dense and has a nice light hold to it. It has a light scent to it, even though I am not a fan of the scent it is light enough where it doesn't bother me much and after the 1st day you don't smell it much in your hair. I was able to use the butter for a twist out with out having to use a gel for hold and got great definition and staying power along with great moisture, but this butter has a little more oil in it than my hair needs so I won't purchase this one again but it is a very good butter for styling.

Pur Whipped Hair Gelly
$9.00 8oz Jar
$15.00 16oz. Jar
$24.00 320z Jar

This hair gelly is one of my all time favorites. I gives a really nice hold, great curl definition and when layered with one of the AfroVeda butters you get softness, hold definition and moisture. By itself it gives a nice shine and a pretty firm hold, but no flaking and no crunchiness. This also works well to slick back your edges for a pony tail or a puff. I haven't tried it for wash n go's yet but wen I do I will be sure to let you guys know my out come. This hair gelly has replaced my EcoStyler gel basically because I get the hold I need and it doesn't dry my hair out.

CoCoLatte Moisture Mask
$9.00 8oz Jar
$15.00 16oz. Jar
$24.00 320z Jar

I originally thought that this was a deep conditioner when I saw it on the website but found out later that it is indeed a very moisture rich hair butter. I opened the jar and immediately got hit with the smell of cocoa, like Palmers Coco Butter and Hershey's Cocoa mixed together. I am not really a fan of that smell so the scent kind of bothers me but after a few hours the scents goes away. I did my twists with this butter and found that my hair was super moisturized and shiny but after a few hours my hair seemed to dry out just a tiny bit. From the feel and texture of this butter there doesn't seem to be much oil in this product, and my hair needs a balance of moisture and oil to seal it. So I could use this butter and then put an oil on top to seal in the moisture but I didnt feel like it. This butter works wonders on my daughters heads but on my hair it just wasn't enough. I do like it but not enough to use it on my hair again after I use up jar I have. I will continue to use it on my children's hair though.

Shea Amla Whipped Butter Cream
$9.00 8oz Jar
$15.00 16oz. Jar
$24.00 320z Jar

This is by far the best moisturizer by AfroVeda! It works wonderfully for my hair, gives great moisture, shine, has a light hold, and the scent is super duper spicy. When ever I do my braids and twists with the butter I get the best results that last 3-4 days. It has just the right amount of moisture and oils for my hair. I have already ordered another jar in a larger size because I like it so much. My hair feels better, surely looks better, and hold moisture much better than it used to now that I use this butter as my daily moisturizer.
